Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

Not an issue of discussion, since when we goto do the disk brake conversion, it comes with a choice of drop spindles. Solved long ago ;)

Yup, it was minor updates til now...

But, with out further ado, the dog has it's bone.

Last night:

Today:

Hell yeh! Pics, video, and all that jazz later, I'm tired. Ran it a few times with some gas in the carb. Waiting til we get a manifold or a set of headers that fit with the motor mounts, radiator, etc until give it a good warm up and run

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

just read the first page and skipped to this one.

please.. for the love of god don't cut your springs! you'll screw up the rate in such a way you'll regret even doing it.

it would be better to get some lowering springs.

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

This weekends Project!

Day 1: FRIDAY! FRIDAY! FRIDAY!

Going out today to pick up the motor and trans, its a Chevy SB 350 and TH350 auto. Leave around 6 or so to get it.

Get it home, and unload it onto the engine stand, or just the floor for now... and then give the block a new coat of orange, and all the accesories and brackets black. That will dry over night.

Day 2: SATURDAY! SATURDAY! SATURDAY! (and sunday!!!)

Using the motor mounts and transmission mounts that came in yesterday (gotta love NAPA) well prep the truck for the motor, and start work getting it in. Then if possible, rig it up to run. Hopefully we'll be able to pull the gas tank out as well, and check it up for leaks or rust. Maybe toss the drive shaft in, and move it a little. Doubt that though, since there really isnt much left of the gas petal assembly.

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

yes yes yes yes yes!!!

Drove out to check out the motor today. Its great, such an insane deal. Rebuilt a few years ago, and the transmission too. The block is just dirty, but its in great shape. Not leaking oil anywhere, no sludge in the motor, etc.

Buying it tomorrow, picking it up next weekend!!!!!!!

The guy we met is a friend of the seller, real cool guy. They have a badass little shop behind this guys house. Inside was a 40s buick. 3 1st gen Camaros (pics of 2) and a Model T

This is one of the Camaros, its a '67 with a 396 stroker V8, one of their racing engines.

'69 Camaro with a 383 Stroker, detuned race motor.

The model T

As well as their 800hp dirt modified car, which the video is coming soon for that bad boy.

These guys make most their money on building race engines, and restorations. I didnt get a pic of the 3rd Camaro, buick, or '53 Chevy pick up.

So excited. :)

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

SOME ONE STOLE MY GRILLE!!

I lied. Took it off today to start some work on it, and shine it up a bit  My dad and I started hammering out the dents and dings. Sometime in its life, someone thought it would be a good idea to pop a dent out with a frikin spike, so we've had to hammer out lots of little dings. Also getting it straight, if you notice on the passenger side head light cut out, its pushed out some, and the very bottom left corner is dented up. Must have hit a Civic or something, its barely fazed.

Pics later when its lit out. But so you can just get an idea of how large/wide this truck is...

Im 5' 11". And the grille alone is taller than me :eyecraz:

Still waiting for the guy to call us back about the V8

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

Its an original 350, their actually getting a bit hard to find. Same with original TH350 transmissions. Of course the later late 70s and up ones are easy, but not as wanted due to the fact that the gov't made then anemic. But of course, its not like its a hard task to make a 350 mean.

Not only that, but, I have more displacement. Your engine sounds like some oddball motor that no body wants, lol. I have yet to hear any infamous tales of a 318ci V8. jk

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

A bit of an update, body work and leak proofing will begin the weekend after this one.

But, finally, located a running engine and transmission combo. Not just any, but identicle to what my truck had originally, and why is this? Its out of a 70s C10

http://houston.craigslist.org/pts/431094895.html

I havent found a better deal at 750 for a solid engine and transmission. Gonna go for it Im 80% sure

edit: the reason Im going for this, is the other engine option is unknown how it runs. Still would need an ECU, wiring, alternator, etc. This is complete, running, and with a trans. And would be damn simple to drop in and get moving, thanks to good ol' carburation :P

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

Today, was a good day. I found the 'toy store' of 60-87 Chevy trucks. Outback truck parts in Spring :o Fuggin, every part needed, and killer prices. So for $120 we got 2 headlight bucket adjustment plates (hard as hell to find), glove box, new hindge and spring (badly needed a right one, youll see), headlight hardware, and then trim clips and a center A/C vent. Some stuff is for later, but you couldnt beat the price at the place...

anyhoo, new hood hindge:

See anything wrong with that one?

So new hindge and spring

Closes flush now! :) Before, any time you opened it, the hindge bent more and more. To the point where the hood closed and you had a near 2 inch gap at the cowl.

And with the trim clips the rear tail light trim I got for my bday can be used.

The engine will be here soon, when ever we can get into my dads storag center and bring home the engine stand.

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

I think I have more than enough to finally buy the Chevy 350ci V8 that my dads friend has set aside.

Excuse the language, but F#$%&N SWEET. Lol, just got done counting my cash, and what I figure is in my saving account. I aught to have more than $600 total. So Im pretty happy right now. That, and my dad has a transmission in storage that we could use. Sooo, just a drive shaft, junkyard an ECU, and finding some headers to fit (no exhaust manifolds on the motor right now) and then cooling. So I might have a moving truck by the end of summer, but not totally done.

:)

Like $22 for a pair? Running? Long ways away. Besides I already have that 89-90 Tahoe 350 small block from my dads friend, and workin on gettin a deal from my friends uncle to sell me the transmission from my friends 85 silverado, which has the same Turbo 350 as this truck had originally.

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

Well the parts I have from the escalade were from just one, and once my dad had taken off and cleared warrenty, he took them home. The most of the interior parts is just bits and pieces hes kept. It pays to have a dad who works for a Cadi dealership.

Ive already had one arguement on here.

Might pick up this set of mirros, to replace the stupid oversized universal ones that are with it now (sitting in the bed).

Saw them at a local auto parts store while pickin up some stuff for the GMC.

So you get random Escalade parts like that? Lucky. How's the truck going? We got the gas tank today. Pictures later.

Thanks dude.

I feel like a chop shop. This is the various Cadillac parts my dad has collected over time, lol. All are parts that have been taken off for varisou reasons, and cleared warrenty. Once their cleared, their either thrown away, or an employee can take it, most dealerships dont care.

Parts box, some will be used in the CST10

on right is the tail light trim we bough. The round set of speakers are Bose tweeters. Some round speaker grilles, an escalade door speaker grille, some pull handles, more tweeter, 4 side mirror turn leds, a dome light, and the headlight retainer rings we bought.

Visors, the 2 matching ones are CTS one if I remember, the driver one has a built in garage door opener. The right one is an escalade one, bigger, and prefered if we can get another. The 2 cts ones will be painted to match each other if used. all have working lighted mirrors.

going to ebay

will be fixed, ebayed

ebay possibility

Escalade backglass

escalade radiator-ebay or sold to a local radiator shop (too big for the CST10)

and this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&sspagena...

The escalade exterior parts, and radiator is from one that got hit by accidently with an accid chemical, and stained the radiator, and left a spot on part of the back glass... on the inside of it. The HID headlights have an insanley slight spot where what seems like a clearcoat on it has come up... its insanely hard to tell. But picky Cadi owners wanted the lights replaced. That can be sold, wether a body shop needs a pair of SRX lights, or ricers that just want the HID elements.

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

Yeh man, picture are cool.

Nothing beats the style of the classic american cars and trucks. Everything has to be aerodynamic, things back then were works of imagination, not so much of science.

And I love Texas state laws that basically, this truck has to pass the emissions standereds of 1969, not modern standereds. Basically, any pretty much anything is legal in this, lol. '69 was a good year for muscle cars and the huge engines.

i like old Chevy trucks almost as much as i like old dodge trucks... very similar looks about them. as far as weight goes my car weighs about 3100 lbs. pretty light compared to some of the old american iron. my brothers has a 350 in his as well. 4 speed. but not fuel injected. I think it would be a fun race. just for fun lol. too bad ur like 5 states away 8O . ill try to get some pictures of my uncles Chevy truck, its an 80's truck... very cool though, orange, ill get pics of both cars asap n show u em. i'd like to have one of the new fuel injected hemi's... but carbs intrigue me. LOL!

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

Thanks. Yeh, the GMCs of this era are the same, with different grilles. I like em both. And your dart vs my CST/10? Hmmm, well given that their both old I bet they weigh the same  good ol american steele. Whats its looking like is a 1989-1990 Chevy Tahoe's fuel injected 350 for this truck.

Do please show pics. :)

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

You were probly pretty dead if you were in the back left side, back right was a bit better, and the front passenger was bad. The drivers seat is like 3 inches from the steering wheel. I seems it was hit from the rear driver fender, adn straight on through the rest of the car. About the only good part, was the 2 passenger side doors that seems ok, and could sorta open before hitting on something. Of all the wrecked cars, that one topped it.

Anyhoo, hopefully these escalade seats stay cheap. Both are the right color. ANd if the front sell, the back are just as good, because theres mounts on the back of my cab for shoulder belts. And they all have their seat mounts that are flat to the ground. Keep this in mind if you gonna go for seats, all the late-model GM trucks the seat bolts go straight down. Easy to mount up. Infact, all the GM trucks do, but you can find a lot of nice latemodel seats if you hit up a few places. Mainly the grey ones, but I found some leather seats that were in good shape from some late 90s tahoe, and those real nice cloth seats from a rolled last gen tahoe.

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

Yeh, the parts that are hard to find are the damn'd head light assembelys on this one...

Not that I know of in Fl, I could ask the guy I bought this from if he knows some places here for a good price that can do it, if you dont mind shipping. But clear as in take out the gas? Or like refurb the tank and reseal?

Check out the remains of this accord... wow. This is why I dont like small cars. It was a late 90s accord, judging from the tail light that was left. You can see along the roof where this car had to be cut open to get the passengers out... God be with those who may or maynot have survived that one.

Yeh, I got curly hair. Chicks dig it. ;)

Its gonna be Cream fabrics, like the light leather color. Armrests will be done in leather, the door panels might be done in tweed. The deciding factor on the color though is when we buy some seats, and that will determine the exact shade of cream. Then ofcourse the dash and the doors, maybe the rest of the interior will be repainted to the outside color, because as you can see in the pics, the dash's paint isnt the best right now.

NEW ENGINE OPTION, been talkin to a friend, hes got an '85 Silverado, with a 3speed auto. Trying to get a price worked out with his uncle, for both the engine and trans. The engine is a 305, or a 350, but my friend doesnt know.

Checked out the 89-90 Tahoe engine lastnight, 350 small block with fuel injection.

THat truck is looking really good. Are you talking about the TV show Trucks? I never saw Copperhead. WHat are you going for? A full restoration, restomod, or just taking your own style.
As for that leaky Mopar comment, I'll have that thing sealed better than the space station. Damn i wish i had something on GM (well nothing the other companies didn't suffer too  )...um, yeah i have nothing :? .

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

Just be ready for a Leaky mopar, lol.

This will be the backing for the custom door panels. Both sides were cut from 1/8 inch particleboard, traced from the original door panels. Then the window crank and door handle holes were drilled out. Later the mounting screw holes will be drilled once I get a final fit (still a bit of trimming here and there, but for now both fit up real good) and the bottomc corners will be rounded. Arm rests will be made, and like the Copperhead from Trucks!, will mount in the stock location, but stretch forward to cover part of the door handle. Just the round part, leaving the handle sticking out enough to grab. Giving it a more modern look.

Your a tad mistaken on parts cost... due to these C10s being so damn popular, theres lots of aftermarket providers. LMC, Classicparts.com, Goodmark just to name a few. Parts, notta problem.

Fairly cheap, too.

Theres lots of parts for cheap, and junkyards galore of wasted trucks to pull parts from

Yeah money is usually the culprit. I have no job because my dad is on disalbility so i have to work off of under the table jobs which are few and far between. The bad thing about your truck is those parts you'll need tog et will be very expensive. My Omni is a very cheap car to rebuild but it's hard trying to juggle that, my Jeep, and motocross which is the most expensive.

Re: Texan's [1969 Chevy CST/10] Home stretch

The mirrors are on the floor. They were taken off when it was last stored because it was in a tight spot. Their just those 5 inch square mirrors. And I dont really use when backing up anyways.. The rear view and looking backwards is what I do.. and hang my head out like a true hero. But I wont have to worry about backing out, it has no engine ;)

Orginal stuff thats worth money? Theres nothing really hidden on this truck, lol. Their pretty basic. The seats are going, but thats when ever we have seats to replace them. The guage cluster is gonna be taken out, and refurbish the guages and do something custom with the trim around it. As for rust, theres no carpet or flooring on it right now, so if there was rust, wed find it already.

That's bull. He's from Texas. He's an idiot! What more can you expect?

Why don't you rip out the whole interior and then rebuild from there. You may find rust, money, rats, or original stuff that's worth money, and it will look much nicer becuase it get's all cleaned up...
